The textile composites market has witnessed a strong growth in the past few years. This growth is estimated to continue during the forecast period. While composites textiles are already proven to be high strength and weight-saving materials, the current challenge is to make the composites textiles cost effective by reducing the cost of fibers. The efforts to develop and commercialize economically beneficial composite textile components and structures have resulted in several innovative production techniques, currently being used in the composites industry.

The textile composites market is characterized according to the types of fabrics that are quad axial fabrics, triaxial fabrics, unidirectional fabrics, biaxial fabrics, and double bias fabrics. High performance fabrics are those which offer increased strength, stiffness, and temperature resistance. Most common materials used for making high-performance fabrics are H-R- and S-glass, aramid, and carbon fibers.

Major two fabric types are woven and non-woven fabrics, which are produced by weaving, warp knitting, braiding, and other specially modified techniques. Woven and non-woven fabrics usually have single plane structures also called 2-D fabrics and fabrics in multi-plane structures called 3-D fabrics. These woven and non-woven fabrics have broad applications in industries such as electrical & electronics, wind, sports goods, marine, construction, aerospace & defense, automotive, pipe & tanks, and medical. Carbon fiber textile composites, glass fiber textile composites, aramid fiber textile composites, and others fiber textile composites are the major four types of composite textiles. The glass textile composites are widely used in PCBs for a number of electronics applications.
