Prepreg is impregnation of reinforcement fabric with resin system before fabricating into parts. Most common reinforcements used for prepreg are glass, carbon and aramid fibers, whereas, either thermoset or thermoplastic resin system is used in prepreg manufacturing. Solvent dip and Hot melt coating are two processes by which prepregs are produced. Prepreg composites materials are now days widely used in end user markets such as aerospace, marine, wind, sporting goods, automotive etc. The key advantages of prepreg materials are high specific strength, low corrosion, consistent quality, and fast manufacturing. However, high cost of prepreg material is one of the key hindrances in the market growth.
