Allergy diagnostics is used to determine the nature and treatment course of allergic diseases. According to an editorial piece published in the World Allergy Journal in May 2014, about 300 million people suffered from asthma and about 200 to 250 million people suffered from food allergies in 2013. The prevalence of asthma has risen rapidly across the globe. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 300 million asthma cases were recorded globally in 2013 and are expected to increase to 400 million, by 2025. Furthermore, about 400 million people suffered from allergic rhinitis and about one-tenth of the population suffered from drug allergies in 2013. High incidence of allergic diseases is the most important growth driver for the allergy diagnostics market in the forecast period from 2014 to 2019.

Young children are highly susceptible to allergic diseases. According to estimates from the U.S. National Institute of Health (NIH), the incidence of food allergies in young children is close to twice than that in adults. In 2013, about 6% of young children in the U.S. suffered from food allergies, while the number for adults is estimated to be about 3%. The population of children aged 14 years and below increased from 1,817 million in 2003 to 1,851 million in 2012. This population segment accounted for about 26.42% of the global population in 2012.
